Director of Early Childhood
at Jewish Primary Day School of the Nation's Capital in Washington, DC
JPDS-NC is in search of a full-time Director for its Early Childhood Center, encompassing Pre-K through First Grade, starting in July 2012. The Director (DEC) will report directly to the Head of School and be part of the Senior Leadership Team.
The DEC will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Early Childhood Center, its curriculum, faculty supervision and development, student assessment, and programming. Working closely with the Head of School, the other Academic Directors, the Learning Specialists, and the Guidance Counselor, the DEC will be responsible for the well-being and the academic, social, and emotional development of the students under his/her care. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the DEC will be expected to bring to life the Mission Statement of the School, firmly adhere to its core values and educational philosophy, and help carry out the JPDS-NC Strategic Plan.
The requirements for the position are:
• Proven ability to create and sustain a welcoming, challenging, and nurturing learning environment for young children
• Commitment to the JPDS-NC mission of community day school education
• Excellent communication skills and ability to create and maintain good professional relationships with faculty and families
• Proven ability to work well as part of a team, possess a strong work ethic, and be ready and able to lead by example
• Masters Degree or equivalent in Early Childhood Education or similar field
• At least 3-5 years of experience in a leadership position in an educational setting
• Priority will be given to candidates who have classroom experience in early childhood education, have familiarity with the Reggio Emilia approach, have a background in Jewish Studies or Jewish Education, and/or are conversant in Hebrew language
