JOB DESCRIPTION
URJ Camp Coleman and The Alfred and Adele Davis Academy, Atlanta’s Reform Jewish Day School, are seeking an outstanding candidate consistent with the vision of the “Nadiv: Camp/School” five-year grant program of the Foundation for Jewish Camp, funded by the Avi Chai and Jim Joseph Foundations.
Description
The successful candidate will serve in a full-time, year-round position that spans both the camp and the school. The candidate will serve as URJ Camp Coleman’s Program Director as well as the Experiential Jewish Education Coordinator at The Davis Academy. Beyond serving in discrete educational positions at both camp and school, the Nadiv educator may serve as an important educational link between the two institutions, helping to build educational and communal synergies between them.
Additionally, Nadiv educators will take part in a unique community of practice. Supported by experienced mentors from the field, Nadiv educators will meet both in person and on conference calls to learn together, reflect on their work, and share in best practices.
Ideal Qualifications:
Experience in both formal Jewish education settings (such as day school, religious school and adult learning) and informal settings (such as youth groups, camp, Israel travel programs and retreats).
Advanced degree in Jewish education/learning, such as rabbinic ordination, MAJE, MARE or the equivalent.
Ability to work in partnership with both professional staff and lays leaders to craft educational vision for the respective institutions
Strong administrative and organizational skills
Warm and outgoing personality
Strong interpersonal skills with both professional staff and lay leaders
Ability to integrate formal and informal education models
Experience in program planning and curriculum development
A high degree of Jewish literacy
Conditions of Employment:
To begin full-time by June 1, 2012. Preparation for upcoming summer camp season is vital; availability for consultancy /flexibility for part-time work February-May 2012 preferred
Appropriate salary and benefit package commensurate with experience
Responsibilities - Camp
Off-Season
Partner with camp leadership team and also volunteer clergy, educators to create and implement camp Jewish educational program and assure its integration into daily camp life
Work in partnership with the camp leadership team to craft, develop and implement a vision for the camp’s approach to Jewish living and learning
Recruit and maintain communication with camp’s seasonal education staff and visiting faculty ensuring programmatic goals and general expectations are clear
Partner with camp Leadership Team to assure that our summer staff of counselors, specialists and unit programmers receives the necessary tools to be successful with campers and in creating a warm and caring Reform Jewish camp community. Includes significant involvement in Staff Development programs including our own unique Olim Fellowship, FJC Cornerstone Fellowship, and Summer Shlichim Seminar in Israel usually held in late April/early May
Summer
Lead program staff and faculty to implement summer program. Supervise 6-8 unit programmers
Supervise song leaders and specialty areas to assure that Jewish curricular goals are achieved in these areas
Oversee tefillah in camp including preparation, scheduling, training, coordinating, etc.
Provide staff with ongoing Jewish and leadership learning program
Act as a primary resource of Judaic knowledge for the camp community
Responsibilities - School:
During the academic year, the Experiential Jewish Education Coordinator at The Davis Academy will help to conceptualize and achieve the following priorities:
Coordinating and enhancing the celebration of Jewish Holidays
Advancing the study and practice of tefillah, particularly at the Middle School level
Consulting with fellow faculty members to enhance experiential and family education programs
Coordinate with Camp Coleman to create Davis Academy programming that utilizes Coleman facilities and resources including Shabbatonim
Support efforts to strengthen the already vibrant ties between The Davis Academy and synagogues represented in our student body
