Director of Jewish Life and Learning
Brandeis Hillel Day School, an independent two-campus Jewish day school, is seeking a vibrant and charismatic Director of Jewish Life and Learning with responsibilities primarily in BHDS San Francisco. This position is for the 2012-2013 school year.
Our mission is to serve the Jewish community by providing children with an outstanding academic program in general and Judaic studies within a dynamic and diverse Jewish cultural environment. The right candidate will clearly articulate and model this mission and the School’s core values which are Integrity (Ometz Lev), Service (Tikkun Olam) and Kindness (Chesed). An ideal candidate has demonstrated skills and experience in developing and implementing curriculum to provide a stellar Hebrew and Judaic Studies program for our students in a way that speaks to their hearts, souls and minds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
• Facilitate school development in areas of Jewish life and learning, broadly defined
• Partner closely with the Head of School in articulating the school’s core mission to all stakeholder groups
• Initiate and follow through with school stakeholders in the systematic development and articulation of an excellent Judaic Studies and Hebrew curriculum
• Support and partner with faculty in the implementation of learning goals for that new curriculum
• Provide support and supervision for all Judaic studies and Hebrew faculty
• Create a school culture, atmosphere, and practice that values Jewish teaching and learning among faculty and parents, as well as students
• Provide vision and support for integrating Israel education and programming into the school
• Plan and oversee the 8th grade trip to Israel for both campuses
• Organize adult and family education programming throughout the year
• Network with regional, national and international Jewish educators and programs.
• Develop initiatives to connect BHDS to the larger Jewish community, locally and nationally
Qualifications:
• Possess academic qualification equivalent to a masters degree in teaching and Jewish studies
• Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively orally and in writing with constituents from the entire school community.
• Demonstrated ability to visualize and lead
• Be proficient to fluent in spoken and written Hebrew
• Be a living exemplar of Jewish learning and values in word and in action
• Have a strong knowledge base in all aspects of Jewish text, history, thought, practice and customs
• Highly value Jewish pluralism – and cultural diversity - for its intrinsic value
• Be comfortable in all denominations of Jewish practice and respectful of the approaches of each
• Able to model respect for a wide range of Jewish beliefs and practices
• Educational background necessary to evaluate programs and effectively integrate Jewish learning and values with the classroom
• Demonstrated successful experience in supportive supervision of teachers
• Familiar with multiple instructional approaches of teaching Hebrew
• Be an enthusiastic and life-long learner
Compensation:
