Full-time School Rabbi

Abraham Joshua Heschel Day School in Los Angeles, a community Jewish day school for grades TK through 8, seeks a School Rabbi who will serve the spiritual and educational needs of the school community. The Rabbi will be creative and inventive, both spiritually and ritually, and able to lead and inspire with his heart/mind/soul. The Rabbi will be well-versed in TK-8 Judaic/Hebrew curriculum and programs and able to assume responsibility for leadership of the Jewish faculty. The Rabbi will work with the senior administration team to facilitate partnerships with staff, parents, and students. The Rabbi will model the mission of the school and its Judaic values.

School Leadership
• Promote a love for Jewish life for all constituents of the community
• Embrace and model the culture with regard to Jewish values and observance
• Serve as a resource and guide for Jewish knowledge for the school community
• Regularly attend school events and serve as an ambassador for the school
• Provide counseling/spiritual support to all members of the school community
• Manage parent communication in a timely, positive and effective manner
• Partner with people/resources to ensure effective problem solving
• Exhibit Judaic leadership through recruitment, supervision, support and evaluation of Hebrew/Judaic faculty
• Model, encourage, and promote professional development and learning opportunities

Spiritual Leadership
• Promote a positive Jewish learning experience that engages and inspires the school community.
• Lead/conduct weekly Tefillah, including Kabbalat Shabbat and B’nai Mitzvah minyanim, and direct student Tefillah Committee
• Manage Beit Midrash standards and discipline


Programming Responsibilities
• Work with Judaic Studies staff and senior administration to review, update, develop, and document a multi-dimensional Tefillah curriculum
• Coordinate Shabbat and holiday services and programs
• Assist Senior Administration in creating family education opportunities
• Coordinate Tikkun Olam opportunities for students and families
• Oversee teaching and implementation of 8th Grade D’var Torah program

Teaching Responsibilties
• Teach classes as assigned and/or needed
• Oversee yearly curricular reviews, documentation
• Manage Judaic grade level culminations
• Attend parent conferences
• Write/edit student report cards and ensure timeliness
• Participate in professional development through workshops, conferences
• Attend weekly staff meetings. Present at division meetings as requested.

Education and Experience
• B.A. or B.S. degree
• Rabbinic degree or in 4-5th year of rabbinic school
• Prior experience teaching at multiple grade levels, K-8
• Prior experience and knowledge working in a day school or within another religious organization

Skills
• Exhibit a strong sense of Judaic values
• Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Excellent team player with strong people skills
• Ability to multi-task and pay strong attention to detail
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and email
• Exhibit patience and flexibility with duties
• Demonstrate ability to lead and mentor others
• Demonstrate positive rapport with children
• Highly knowledgeable and respectful of all aspects of Jewish culture and community

Salary and benefits negotiable, depending on qualifications.
