Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School, an independent community Jewish day school in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago, seeks to hire a visionary educational leader to serve as its Head of Middle School beginning in July 2012. The school is highly regarded for the excellence of both its general and Jewish studies programs, and over the past six years, the Middle School has experienced record enrollment based on the development of an outstanding, innovative educational program focused on meeting the academic, social and emotional needs of it students. In addition, our graduates have experienced tremendous success in their acceptance to top-tier independent and public schools throughout the greater Chicago area.

The qualified candidate will possess a strong background in middle school education as both a teacher and administrator and demonstrate a vision for excellence in all aspects of the department’s programming. The middle school head must be a passionate advocate for all students, exhibit exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrate outstanding written and verbal skills, display confidence and sensitivity in leading faculty, be knowledgeable about middle school best practices and curriculum, understand the importance of partnership with the parent community, and lead parent education around developmentally appropriate adolescent challenges.

The middle school head reports directly to the head of school.

• Oversee all facets of the Middle School educational program
• Champion professional excellence in all aspects of school life
• Advocate for the academic, social and emotional needs of all students
• Promote a respectful environment in which both students and faculty thrive
• Collaborate with administrative colleagues to ensure our mission, “to teach them diligently”
• Understand the value and importance of collegiality both within and across departments
• Partner with families to support each child’s success
• Support, supervise and evaluate faculty as well as recruit and hire new teachers
• Set expectations for technological integration promoting creativity, collaboration, innovation and problem-solving
• Work with the Business Office to develop and oversee an operational budget
