Full-time Director of Development

at RAVSAK in New York City

RAVSAK seeks a Director of Development to implement our strategic development plan and manage all fundraising activities including establishing and growing a major gifts and annual campaign. The Director will work with the Executive Director, RAVSAK’s senior and development staff, and Board Members to raise money from a diverse, sophisticated and national donor base.

The ideal candidate will have superior social, project management, administrative, and writing skills to be able to appropriately represent the organization to donors, prospects and the public. The position requires proven managerial and strategic planning skills, as well as, experience working with the Jewish philanthropic community. He or she will be diplomatic, of the highest integrity, and possess sound judgment and interpersonal skills.

RAVSAK is a Jewish, non-profit organization based in New York City. Its mission is to strengthen and sustain the life, leadership and learning of Jewish community day schools, ensuring a vibrant Jewish future.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Management and Coordination: Serve as central command for all fundraising efforts to ensure a coordinated and strategic program.
    • Maintain portfolio and tracking system for all development efforts
    • Convene senior staff for regular meetings to actively manage, coordinate, and build strategies for all development activities (cultivation events, individual meetings, etc.)
    • Provide regular development reports to RAVSAK’s leadership that benchmark how much has been raised, number of donors and donor activity
    • Track prospect and donor contacts in a donor information system
    • Maintain annual development budget
      • Supported by Development and Communications Manager

  • Major Gifts: Develop and manage a portfolio of current and prospective donors capable of making major gifts ($5,000 and above)
    • Build long-term relationships with donors and prospects: identify and cultivate donors’ interests in the organization
    • Travel to assist the solicitation of major gifts
    • Identify and create relationships with new foundations and manage application process
  • Board and Leadership: Support RAVSAK Executive Director, Senior Staff and Board Members in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of donors and prospects.
    • Work closely with senior leadership to set up financial and donor activity goals
    • Lead and support the efforts of the Board’s development committee
    • Work with Board members to identify prospects and create individual cultivation and stewardship plans
    • Plan and support cultivation events and dinners as needed
  • Writing and Proposals:
    • Draft all correspondence including proposals, acknowledgments, and follow-up notes for major donors and prospects
    • Create presentations and proposals for donor briefings and solicitations
      • Supported by Development and Communications Manager

Qualifications:

  • Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of development experience
  • Successful track record in fundraising from major donors
  • Entrepreneurial, strategic thinker with a proven track record of working independently
  • Experience working with and motivating volunteer committees
  • Very well organized and attentive to detail
  • Able to work effectively under pressure with competing priorities
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills
  • Excellence in interpersonal and project management skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and CRM fundraising databases
  • Experience in educational and/or Jewish institution a plus
  • Master’s degree preferred

RAVSAK’s development program is in its initial stages and the successful candidate must be excited about forming new relationships with lay leaders, potential donors and Heads of Schools. He/she should be prepared to implement key development processes and ensure their functionality and effectiveness.
